Studying Alligators in DFW
Learn how biological sciences assistant professor Dr. Andrew Gregory, graduate student Cristal Martinez-Alvizo, and members of UNT’s Wildlife Society are partnering with the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge to study the unique American Alligator population in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! The project is helping the refuge refine their survey methods and document nesting habits while giving students hands-on experience in the field that helps prepare them for careers in wildlife conservation.

“I chose UNT for its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and the opportunity to work with real-world biological challenges,” said Isha Mittal, a UNT graduate student studying biochemistry and molecular biology in the lab of Dr. Jyoti Shah.  “During my time here, the mentorship, access to diverse research tools, and exposure to national and international-level scientific communities have shaped my growth.” 
Dr. D'Souza
Congratulations to Regents Professor of chemistry Dr. Francis D'Souza for being awarded the Hans Fischer Career Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines. Dr. D’Souza joined the University of North Texas in 2011 and is recognized as an expert in fundamental and applied porphyrin chemistry, collaborating with researchers worldwide.
